Our Values
The Ethereal Decibel Festival is more than an event. It is a shared space where people, cultures, ideas and struggles come together. We aim to create a place where everyone can experience a celebration that is free, safe, mindful and respectful of others and of the world around us.
Here are the values that guide us and that we uphold collectively with our audience, our artists, our teams, our volunteers and our partners.
Respect and equality
We clearly affirm that all human beings are equal in rights and dignity.
The festival firmly rejects any form of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and any other form of discrimination or hateful speech.
We want a space where everyone can be themselves.
Every interaction must be guided by care, listening and respect.
A celebration only makes sense if no person is marginalised, attacked or made invisible.
01
Anti fascist and anti racist commitment
Electronic and alternative cultures were born from movements of emancipation and resistance against oppressive systems.
For this reason, we reject all far right, nationalist, supremacist or discriminatory ideologies.
We refuse to let the scene or the festival spaces become a platform for hateful discourse.
Our commitment to anti racism and anti fascism is a non negotiable pillar of our identity.
02
Recognition of struggles and oppressed peoples
The Ethereal Decibel Festival explicitly acknowledges the existence and gravity of several contemporary genocides and crimes against humanity, including
• the genocide of the Palestinian people
• the genocide of the Uyghur people
• the genocide of the Rohingya people
• the genocide of the Tigrayan people
We also recognise the realities of apartheid, political domination, military occupation and colonisation still present in the world.
We reject any attempt to deny, minimise or justify these forms of violence.
Our position is based on solidarity, justice and the defence of human dignity.
03
Opposition to imperialism and its expressions
We oppose all forms of imperialism: military, cultural, economic, religious or symbolic.
We support the self determination of peoples and struggles against systems of domination.
Our festival aims to be a space where cultures intersect freely, without hierarchy, without appropriation and without erasure.
04
Spirituality and diversity
We welcome spiritual diversity in all its richness: Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, animist, pagan, syncretic beliefs or the complete absence of religion.
Everyone is free to live their spirituality as they choose, as long as it is expressed with respect toward others.
Proselytism, the hierarchy of beliefs or the devaluation of a spirituality have no place in our space.
We also affirm our clear opposition to sectarian abuses, psychological manipulation, mental control and obscurantism that fuels misinformation or rejection of scientific knowledge.
05
Fight against harassment and gender based and sexual violence
We know that festive spaces can be affected by sexist and sexual violence.
Since 2023, the Ethereal Decibel Company has been actively reinforcing prevention, training, listening structures and on site intervention protocols.
Consent is a central value.
No act of harassment, aggression, pressure or sexist behaviour is tolerated.
We want every person to be able to move in a safe, respectful and caring environment.
06
Violence, intimidation and dangerous behaviour
Our festival is a place of peace, connection and expression.
No violence, whether physical, verbal or psychological, is accepted.
Threats, intimidation or dangerous or irresponsible behaviour go against everything we aim to bu
07
Ecological commitment and rejection of climate denial
The climate emergency is a scientifically established reality.
We recognise the responsibility of the live entertainment industry for its environmental impact.
We work to reduce our footprint through waste reduction, thoughtful mobility, energy optimisation, sustainable scenography and responsible partnerships.
We give no room to climate denial, which slows down the actions needed to protect our common future.
08
Flags and symbols
To preserve a non nationalist space that is not centred on borders, national flags are prohibited at the festival.
We make an exception for flags that represent struggles against oppression, imperialism and colonisation.
The following are allowed
• Palestine
• Kanaky
• Ukraine
• Kurdistan
• Western Sahara
• Tibet
• Zapatistas of Chiapas
• Indigenous peoples of the Amazon
These flags do not symbolise governments but popular movements for freedom, dignity and self determination.
A necessary nuance:
The presence of a flag never means that we deny the rights of another people.
We reject simplistic interpretations that oppose populations who are not enemies by nature.
For example
• Allowing the Ukrainian flag is in no way a rejection of Russians or their right to live freely and with dignity.
• Allowing the Palestinian flag never means denying the right of Israelis to live in peace and security on the land they inhabit.
We do not support logics of hatred between populations. We support peoples who face oppression, whoever they are.
Our approach is guided by solidarity, justice and human dignity, never by opposition between groups or identities.
09
An engaged community
These values are addressed not only to our teams but also to you.
The Ethereal Decibel Festival is a space we build together.
We invite you to carry these values with us, to look out for one another, to report any problematic behaviour and to help make our festival a truly free, joyful and dignified place for all who bring it to life.
